How Atheist TV Personality, Kirsten Powers was Converted

IMHO: Don't Discount Apologetic Discourse

Atheist TV Pundit, Kirsten Powers became a Christian in part because she realized that Christianity is more logical. She has a page in Wikipedia describing her achievements. For those that completely discount intellectual apologetics in favor of “more spiritual" theism,  you might want to consider that atheist Kirsten became a Christian apparently because she was first, “...surprised by the intellectual and intriguing sermons given by the pastor, Timothy Keller.” and, “She ended up making up her mind that Christianity was the most rational way to look at the world...” with the understanding, of course, that no one comes believe and follow Christ without the inner work of the Holy Spirit.

Scientist / Blogger Dr. Jay L. Wile outlined Kirsten Powers' path to salvation at his blog and that's where I first read about Kirsten. Every once in a while I find people that completely discredit any intellectual defense of Christianity as “not spiritual” and this is another example of why this is not a valid labeling. Jesus is described as the “logos” - the “Word made flesh” and this word “logos” is actually the Greek root word for the English word “logic.” The truth and logic of God's existence is not somehow in a mutually exclusive rhealm that is completely cut off from the spiritual realm. John 4.24 states, “... those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth."

Believing in Jesus Christ ran counter to all of her secular atheist academic conditioning. Powers' personal testimony of conversion was described in a Christianity Today article from 2013 where she described her struggle of receiving this truth from her boy friend: “Then he said the magic words for a liberal: "Do you think you could keep an open mind about it?" Well, of course. "I'm very open-minded!" Even though I wasn't at all.” And she described her intrigue with the intellectual side of Christianity, as sparked at Redeemer Church in NYC:

“Tim Keller's sermon was intellectually rigorous, weaving in art and history and philosophy. I decided to come back to hear him again. Soon, hearing Keller speak on Sunday became the highlight of my week. I thought of it as just an interesting lecture—not really church. I just tolerated the rest of it in order to hear him. ...Each week, Keller made the case for Christianity. He also made the case against atheism and agnosticism. He expertly exposed the intellectual weaknesses of a purely secular worldview.” I personally attended Redemmer for a few years while living in the city and also appreciated Keller's depth and approach as an apologist.

Both intellectual experience and spiritual experience played a distinct role in Powers' conversion:

“Then one night in 2006, on a trip to Taiwan, I woke up in what felt like a strange cross between a dream and reality. Jesus came to me and said, "Here I am." It felt so real. I didn't know what to make of it. I called my boyfriend, but before I had time to tell him about it, he told me he had been praying the night before and felt we were supposed to break up. So we did. Honestly, while I was upset, I was more traumatized by Jesus visiting me.” By 2015, Kristen Powers had converted to Catholocism. Upon her Twitter announcement, she did not offer any public details on why she chose this denomination.
